Since the inlet is protected from strong gusts and high seas, it's a low-key place for a day sail. If you're inept and manage to get in trouble despite the easy conditions, the sand that rings most of the bay makes for soft emergency landings. The Mission Bay Sportcenter rents sailboards, catamarans, and sailboats from 14 to 25 feet. Prices range from $14/hour to $190/day. You can rent kayaks or, if you're feeling aggro, jet skis and powerboats for waterskiing. But the staff and the setting are so mellow here, why not just kick back on a Hobie for an afternoon cruise by Vacation and Fiesta Isles?
