A lesser-known fact about San Diego County is that it has more horses per capita than any other county in the United States. With no horse-feed section at Vons, horse owners must drive further east to feed his animals. Double S is more like a warehouse than a store, by sheer necessity. You'll find stacks of 50-pound feed bags, bales of alfalfa, hay, and straw, as well as animal-bedding materials like cedar shavings. Inside the store are supplies for all animals, including household pets. Vaccines are available for horses, dogs, cats, sheep, goats, and cattle. They also supply food for hamsters, guinea pigs, emus, rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, pheasant, fish, pot-bellied pigs, and wild birds. Take the Flinn Springs exit off I-8 and go one-half mile east. Monday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; Sunday 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
