Some people admire the elaborate mural-sized geometric designs of former guerrilla tagger Saki, others prefer the primitive kinetic power of a simple bathroom-wall limerick. Sponsored graffiti -- wall paintings commissioned by civic groups and property holders -- is often quite beautiful if rarely inspired. Examples can be found in Balboa Park and at the San Ysidro border crossing. The hit-and-run taggers who work under cover of night used to produce awesome temporary masterpieces on the now-razed Home Depot building on University and on various Golden Hill fences, particularly around upper Broadway. The best place to drive around and see graffiti is on the mainland end of the Coronado Bridge in Barrio Logan, a full-scale neighborhood gallery offering all types of public art.
