We've heard how the Aztec Bowl has come back from the brink of extinction, making bowling cool for the alternate club crowd. We've heard about "Cosmic Bowl" nights with DJs and funky music and dancing and the intimate booths of the Turquoise Room. Some folks even pick up the bowling ball and roll it. But what you don't hear about is the food. Mary the manager points out that food prices have hardly gone up since the early '90s. You can settle back into the '50s-style booths and order up a drink and comfort food (till 11:00 p.m.). Fish and chips ($4.25), everybody's favorite, the bacon cheeseburger ($3.85), or chili fries ($3.85), or, egg sandwich and fries, $2.75. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, you're going to have some kind of rave going. DJs or live bands -- like Latin jazz or samba or rockabilly. But the call of the kingpins is why you're here. Just for them, you'll fork out $1.25 for a game ($2.75 peak hours) and $1 for shoes ($2 peak hours).
