The owners of Venus wanted to be open when nearby SDSU let out for summer last May, but delays caused them to just miss their target date. Despite this, students who can't get into nearby clubs, such as the Boulevard and Etta's Place, have gravitated toward Venus's purple neon sign, entering to find DJ Random Mic pumping techno, hip-hop, and industrial beats. The crowd grows larger each week, in part since there are so few 18-plus clubs in the county.
