On average, the 800-plus members of the Cinema Society of San Diego see over 20 films during the September-through-April season held at the AMC La Jolla theaters. Often a writer, producer, director, or others associated with the film attend the screenings and Cinema Society members have the opportunity to chat with them during Q&A sessions. Occasionally, cinema society president Andy Friedenberg takes film lovers to thematic dinner-and-a-movie packages, a yearly trip to the Reuben H. Fleet for a preview of the latest IMAX creation, and film festival junkets.
