Thursday before Father's Day, 3:30 in the afternoon, hordes of little Picassos concentrated on coloring and taping letters and cutouts onto a paper placemat for Pop's big day. Another Thursday afternoon at 3:30, Jerry Hager entertained a mob of children with a story mime reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin silent films. Throughout the year, La Mesa branch library on University Avenue has events for children on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and at 3:30 p.m. A Dr. Seuss storytime, Green Eggs and Ham, complete with a man dressed like the Cat in the Hat and props: a sugar cookie with white frosting and green Jell-O in the center. Yes, kids, green eggs do taste good! Puppet shows, crafts, sing-alongs, a ventriloquist show, a visit from Winnie the Pooh...every Thursday there are two different events to entertain the munchkins. There's plenty of parking for those minivans too.
