The drawback to these concerts of quartet and trio music is Mandeville Auditorium, whose ugliness is matched by its variable acoustics (hint: sit in the back of the hall). But there is nothing slipshod about the artists who have appeared in this series, including again this season the Emerson String Quartet. Other artists on this year's programs (all of which, except one, take place on Friday evenings) include the Golub-Kaplan-Carr Trio, the Amadeus Trio, the Miami String Quartet, and the Quartet Sine Nomine. One characteristic of these concerts is that, among the works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert, almost every concert includes one 20th-century work.
