Nothing is more pleasing to the thrift shopper than spending a Saturday morning wandering through aisles of knickknacks, fingering dusty racks of clothing, calculating how much you're saving, laughing to yourself at anybody who pays full price for anything. San Diego is blessed with an abundance of second-hand and thrift stores, from one-room boutiques to supermarket-sized jobs. Of the former type, St. Paul's Thrift Shop on Fifth Avenue in the Park West area is a gem. The merchandise, largely donated by St. Paul's Episcopal parishioners, is often high-end. Italian suits and antique chairs can be had for a song.
