Another difference between Hawaii and San Diego — tiled pools

Matmail: Just getting back from living in Maui for a couple of months. In Maui I was tiling pools. Not just the edges, but the entire pool. Coming back to San Diego, I noticed that no pools are tiled completely. Nobody seems to have the answer to why pools are not completely tiled in San Diego.— Makena, the Net

Oh, the expense! Oh, the maintenance! Few San Diegans are so profligate or pool-obsessed as to spend the extra five or ten thou for tile. Even local pool builders to the stinky rich say they do maybe one every couple of years. Work prospects dimmed when you hit the mainland. Bathrooms loom on your horizon.
