Seize the King
Shakespeare's Richard III has reincarnated into a modern megalomaniac. He not only wants it all, he wants to prove that all of us are just like him. As world premieres go, Will Power's drama ranks among the boldest. The playwright combines words, styles, and ideas from near (today) and far (Shakespeare) and forges a distinctive voice. The Jaime Castenada-directed production matches Power's charged language with energetic stage movement and a strong performance by Jesse J. Perez as Richard. Opening night had a consistent snag, however. The cast had trouble with the hybrid language and blurred key words and phrases.Worth a try.
