Marine Plastics: Chemistry of Plastic Degradation
Marine plastic, marine debris, microplastics…words that are commonly heard but what do they really mean? Where do they come from? How do they break down? Are they harmful? Rikki McDaniel, with North American Marine Environment Protection, will answer these questions and more at Coronado Library! Mrs. McDaniel holds a BS in Marine Biology and has many years of technical and teaching experience in the marine science field. She will discuss the composition of plastic, some of the common terms (PET, PBA, BPA), how plastic breaks down, microplastics, public education, and steps we can all take to “Change One Habit-Change The World.” Together we can Save Our Seas! This free event is in partnership with Emerald Keepers. Vision 2020: A Celebration of Environmental Awareness for a Sustainable Coronado.
