Zoonotic Diseases of Marine Mammals
The San Diego Chapter of the American Cetacean Society will host Dr. Stephanie Norman as part of the organization's ongoing monthly speaker series. Stephanie Norman is a wildlife veterinarian and epidemiologist, involved in the aquatic animal health field, spanning invertebrates to top-level predators. She earned her veterinary degree from Texas A&M University, her MS in epidemiology at the University of Washington, and a PhD in wildlife epidemiology at UC Davis. Her presentation will give an brief overview of some of the more key zoonotic (transmission from animals to humans) diseases originating from marine organisms of several taxa: shellfish, fish, and marine mammals, as well as a brief overview of the concepts of One Health and epidemiology and how they come into play with zoonotic diseases.
