Protect Ponto Beach Clean-up
Two community groups are seeking volunteers for a cleanup event, hosted by the Surfrider Foundation and People for Ponto, will remove trash from the beach and raise awareness of the shortage of coastal parkland in South Carlsbad. In addition to cleaning up the beach, the ‘How I can help save Ponto’ gathering will provide concerned North County citizens with information about Carlsbad’s six-mile regional gap between coastal parks, and how North County citizens can help fix this gap. The city and the California Coastal Commission are obligated to address the Ponto-area coastal parks shortage under requirements aimed at providing and preserving coastal areas for public use. People for Ponto is seeking public support for building a coastal park at Ponto and for other coastal preservation activities. The organizers will provide a limited supply of reusable bags and gloves for the cleanup, but bring your own if you can. Participants should meet at the bottom of the beach access ramp at the south end of the state campground.
