Compensation: 20th Anniversary Screening
330 Park Boulevard, San Diego, 92101
Cost: Free
UCSD's Communication Dept and the San Diego Central Library present a 20th anniversary screening of Compensation, the acclaimed independent drama, featuring pioneering Black Deaf actress Michelle Banks, by award-winning filmmaker and UCSD professor Zeinabu Irene Davis. Inspired by a 1906 poem by Paul Laurence Dunbar, Compensation tells two parallel love stories set at the turn of the 20th century and in present-day Chicago, both about the relationship between a deaf woman and a hearing man. Banks and Davis will lead a Q&A after the film. Simultaneous interpretation in American Sign Language (ASL) and English will be provided.
