Sacra/Profana: Looking Back, American Mavericks
The 20th Century has been called the “American Century” and is really the time in which American Choral music distinguished itself from its European counterparts. From rugged individualists like Charles Ives, to the distinct palette of Morten Lauridsen, the American landscape is filled with composers who developed their own distinct voice for the choral instrument. SACRA/PROFANA is San Diego’s premiere professional choral group of 20 voices with a mission to bring you, the discerning listener, fantastic choral music from all across time and space in an accessible and engaging format. SACRA/PROFANA has accomplished remarkable things in the last 10 years, including numerous world and U.S. premieres and collaborations with leading regional arts organizations: San Diego Symphony, Art of Élan, San Diego Opera, California Ballet, and many more. The group has also performed with many artists of worldwide renown, including the legendary Irish band the Chieftains, producer Carlton Cuse (of ABC's hit show Lost), composer Michael Giacchino (Star Trek), and composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz in the development of Disney Theatrical's The Hunchback of Notre Dame at La Jolla Playhouse.
