Acuity Exhibition Opening
Acuity, a retrospective of paintings by Alfredo Santiago and stand-up-cutouts of David Walton will run from October 5-26, 2019, with a public reception on October 5. during National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Alfredo Santiago had a successful and exciting career in New York City as an editor, publisher, and fashion consultant. After he was diagnosed with glaucoma in 1993 and told he would eventually lose his sight, Santiago did something inspirational. He renewed his interest in the arts. Sculpting in clay, stone, and bronze, along with oil painting, sustained his spirit until the end of his life in 2018. During this time Santiago participated in many shows and even attended sculpture workshops in Italy to advance his techniques. Rather than considering his limited vision as an obstacle, Santiago considered it an opportunity to see clearly what he never had the ability to see before.
David Walton draws with a quick hand, paying attention to details as he dreams of making money by selling his artwork. He recently received an Arts and Accessibility grant from the California Arts Council and the National Arts and Disability Center. The funds supplied special markers with painting tips, rolls of paper, and foam core to create stand-up-cutouts of Walton’s life-size Medieval and Renaissance Kings and Queens in full regalia.
