Directed by Catherine Burns, Artistic Director of The Moth With his signature wit and keen observational eye for everyday life, bestselling author and New Yorker staff writer Adam Gopnik chronicles his early days in the tumultuous 1980s–where a life begun in the smallest apartment in Manhattan opened the gate to professional misadventures in the worlds of high fashion, art and public speaking. Jumping forward twenty years, Gopnik also tells the story of raising two children in the utterly different New York of the aughts and builds a moving portrait where imaginary friends, misunderstood texts and even steam bath sexuality all manage to confound and shape his understanding. This one-man show of stories from his 30 years as a husband, father, and writer is based on material developed with public radio’s The Moth and most recently played for a sold-out run at NYC’s Public Theater.
