Poetry Competition Conversation & Workshop
The San Diego poetry competition to honor beloved poet Steve Kowit is open for entries now until October 15, 2018. If you are interested in submitting a poem, this two-part workshop and conversation with Molly Cook will help make your work shine. Molly was the first winner of the Kowit Prize (2016) and received an honorable mention in the 2017 competition. First prize is $1,000 for one poem – definitely worth your while – with additional cash prizes as well as publication and public readings. In this workshop/conversation, we’ll review significant elements of poetry, look at previous winning poems for this competition and others by award-winning poets. We’ll also consider the nature of poetry competitions. You’ll write, reflect, revise, receive encouragement, and find inspiration from an assortment of sources, perhaps with a few surprises. Come prepared to write and participate. Work in class will be with pen and paper, not on phones or laptops. Whether you plan to enter the competition or not, this workshop will focus and sharpen your poetic game.
