The Lemon Twigs and Jungle Green
Any time you put the word “lemon” in your band name, you’re giving potential listeners a hint as to your sound as clear and obvious as a pair of sandals and a tie-dye t-shirt. The Lemon Pipers (remember “Green Tambourine”?) were so sugar-coated psychedelic that, to this day, the mere sight of the colorful old Buddah-Kama Sutra record label can trigger LSD flashbacks. The Lemonheads have been manufacturing aural acid since the early 80s, and the music of British electro-duo Lemon Jelly sounds like what would happen if you gave one of the Transformers two turntables, a microphone, and a Dumpster-load of ecstasy. Long Island brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario, aka the Lemon Twigs, aspire to the same sort of paisley baroque pop pioneered by the Beatles and the Beach Boys, refined by Badfinger and Big Star, and pretty much perfected by World Party, XTC, Oasis, and PM Dawn.
Their debut album, Do Hollywood, was an utter time capsule that earned them enough notice for a slot at Coachella 2017, where they were joined onstage by once and future wizard and true star Todd Rundgren. Their sophomore album Go to School drops this month, with a support tour scheduled to hit the Music Box on October 19, where the siblings will be accompanied by newly hired backing players making their first trek with the band. The bill includes Chicago rockers Jungle Green.
