San Diego New Music: Disparate Voices
1008 Wall Street, San Diego, 92037
Cost: $10 - $25
San Diego New Music presents a program at the Athenaeum Music and Arts library curated by Batya MacAdam-Somer, violin, with Bonnie Lander, soprano. With “Disparate Voices,” Bonnie Lander and Batya MacAdam-Somer explore the concepts of story and self through the surrealistic musical poetry of Giacinto Scelsi and the masterpiece of Dada sound poetry by Kurt Schwitters. Southern California composer Carolyn Chen offers a quirky, intimate settings of different texts for singing and speaking violinist. Rounding out the program is one of the most celebrated works by Hungarian composer György Kurtág, a portrait of Franz Kafka through a kaleidoscopic set of miniatures evoking the time, place and mood of Kafka's writings.
