Voices of Our City Choir (film & concert)
See their story: screen the PBS film by Susan Polis Schutz The Homeless Choir Speaks. Hear them sing: Voices of Our City Choir will perform some of their favorites. Meet the Choir: members, along with founders professional muscians Steph Johnson and Nina Leilani, will follow their performance with a question and answer session. Founded for people experiencing homelessness and those supporting the cause, their mission is to bring the community together so each member has the opportunity to have their voice heard and celebrated. The Choir also creates a space for family, and in The Homeless Choir Speaks, it's shown that even suicides have been thwarted because of the friendships formed through the choir. Schutz interviews 14 members of the Voices of Our City Choir as they open up and tell their stories, leaving viewers with the sense that anyone could be one step away from becoming homeless.
