Walk for Apraxia
The 5th Annual San Diego Walk for Apraxia will be taking place May 6th to raise funds and awareness for children who have Apraxia of Speech. CAS is a neurological speech disorder that causes a child to not be able to say what he/she wants to say. There is a disconnect between the brain and the jaw and word formulation is difficult. It takes countless hours of speech therapy to find their voice. The walk is to bring families together who have children who have CAS as well as to raise funds and awareness among the community. The funds raised go back to the children in the form of iPads, scholarships for speech therapy, conference fees at the annual conference, workshops that take place multiple times during the year and education research to help children who have CAS. I am coordinating this walk because my son Ryan, was diagnosed with Apraxia 7 years ago and has been in speech therapy multiple days a week. He has made great strides in finding his voice and this event helps to celebrate him as well as all of the other children in San Diego who are diagnosed with Apraxia everyday. This speech disorder is not well known and my goal is to bring more community awareness to it. http://casana.apraxia-kids.org/site/TR?fr_id=2741&pg=entry
