July 23 - July 27 | Ages 10 to 18 Literature, comic books, photography, movies, illustration, any visual art -- Zine Camp is for students who love all of these and want to learn how to edit, create, and distribute art in DIY magazines. A zine is a self-published book or booklet that can be reproduced to share or sell. Moreover, Zine content is all-inclusive and can go beyond conventional material. This camp is about promoting creative possibilities and sharing ideas-- tools that will last a lifetime! Activities include photography, screen printing, written word, drawing, collaging, and more. About the teaching artists: Luisa Martinez and David Peña are interdisciplinary artists based in Tijuana/San Diego. They are co-founders and organizers of Tijuana Zine Fest, a large scale festival which celebrates self-publishing and independent art. Their work centers on illustration, but has developed to include public practice, installation work, and written text. They tend to focus on intimacy, the pretense of originality, emotional literacy, space, and re-use – prioritizing work that is done independently and for the service of a broad audience. Their work has been featured at SDAI, Basement Projects, San Diego Museum of Art, UCSD Artifacts Gallery, Bread and Salt, SDCC’s City Gallery, among others. After care available to 4pm.
