Schubert’s Trout
One of the greatest composers of the late Classical and early Romantic eras, Franz Schubert, will be celebrated at a special Discovery Concert Series performance at the Rancho Bernard Library. The performance will include poetry, singers performing his art songs and a chamber music quintet that will play his entire Piano Quintet, op. 111. The performance will be in the 2nd floor library community room.
The concert will include readings of the poem which Schubert set to music in one of his more than 600 songs or lieder. Also singers from the studio of Ines Irawati will present “Die Forelle” and a few other Schubert lieder to demonstrate the style of the art song. Finally, a quintet gathered from the area chamber music scene will play the entire Piano Quintet, op. 111 by Franz Schubert. The fourth movement is the famous theme and variations based on Schubert’s song.
The quintet consists of a piano (Bob Hart), violin (Wendy Loeb), viola (Clara Oberle), cello (Millie Boaz) and bass (Park Carmon). The Discovery Concerts at the library serve to educate the public about various music forms and to expand the opportunity for local musicians to perform. There is no charge for this performance. All ages are welcome.
