San Onofre: Countdown to Nuclear Disaster?
The California Coastal Commission (CCC) gave Southern California Edison (SCE) a permit to bury millions of pounds of radioactive nuclear waste on the beach at San Onofre. The 8.5 million residents identified by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) living within the 50-mile plume radius are at risk, including San Diego County. This waste is deadly for 250,000 years. Edison will store their waste in steel cans a mere 5/8” thick with a design life of 60 years & a manufacturer's warranty of only 25 years. Join Public Watchdogs members Charles Langley, Nina Babiarz, and Robert Pope for details of this imminent and urgent issue. There will be time for questions. This presentation is one of an ongoing series of talks sponsored by the North County Climate Change Alliance (www.ncccalliance.org) with the goal of providing opportunities for local residents to become informed about, and engaged in the climate change issue.
