East San Diego/Spring Valley-based rapper Corey Thompson - aka Young Gee - says his music career began at age 11, when he was inspired by his father's record label Out Tha Gate Records. His first mix tape Scrillafornia Volume 1 was released in 2008, while Volume 2 came out the following year. His other mix tapes include Daygo to the I, Fly Young Gangsta Volume 1, and Jacking for Beats Volume 1.

As of late 2009, Young Gee’s MySpace page has around 11,000 friends. He says he considers himself “the new-age Ice Cube.”
