Reina Mystique's first encounter with the music industry came when she was just nine years old. While living with her family in a homeless shelter, she was given the opportunity to record on an album called Voice of the Homeless, distributed by MCA records. She was one of 27 homeless people chosen out of over 500 who auditioned to be a part of the album.

While younger, she performed all over San Diego. She was called upon several times by the former councilman George Stevens to sing at various events around town including the groundbreaking of the Malcolm X Library. After graduating from the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts in 2001, she went on to Grossmont Community College before transferring to Seattle Pacific University where she majored in music.

Based in OB, it took three years to finally finish her debut album, for which she collaborated with many artists from different genres. On 25, she strives to be more than just a cookie cutter R&B singer by fusing jazz, dance, acoustic, R&B, and pop.

A new EP was released in 2019, 1018, preceded by a single for "adVANture" and promoted while traveling across country with her family in a van, occasionally joined onstage by their son Bishop.
