Formed in 2005, Morphesia began as singer/guitarist Zombie Thirteen's one-man black metal project before expanding to a quartet. The original band logo was designed by Christophe Szpajdel, who has also done logos for Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Old Man's Child, Abigail Williams, Rihanna, and Metallica.

Between 2007 and 2012, various Morphesia demos were released with revolving musicians. A live version of the band debuted in 2015, followed by releases like the Hell of Satan EP (2013) and a full-length called Lucifer Rising (2014) based on the 1974 film by Kenneth Anger.

By 2015, at least eighteen other musicians had played in the band and/or on recordings. At that time, Morphesia became a one-man band once again and continued to play live shows. An EP called ąŁŁȋɱąς was released in 2016.

Starting in 2017, Morphesia dropped the black metal tag and began incorporating a more alternative, post-metal/blackgaze style, forgoing the Norwegian corpse paint and lyrical content to focus on a more diverse and ambient sound, with emphasis on visual imagery during live shows.
