Casual collaborations between drummer Bill Ray and keyboardist Neil MacPherson have grown into a full-scale project known as the Journeymen.
“There’s gonna be so much of this stuff,” says Ray, “because I’m constantly going down to Spotless (Ocean Beach) and laying tracks. That’s a great room for what I do - close to my house, great vibe, and really reasonable [prices].” The group made its live debut in March, 2009.
For the band’s first record Dog Days, MacPherson says “We recorded the whole album without ever being in the same studio together; I moved up to Santa Cruz in April 2008. Bill would email me recordings of himself goofing off on the drums. I would then layer a bunch of keyboards on top of said goofiness and, lo, a song was born. We managed to complete ten of these over a six month period.”
