Fred Burton began his music career making solo recordings. "My first gig ever was at the Mermaid House in National City," he told the Reader. "Good lineup, good beer, great raps, but just overall a mess of a show. I had thought that they scheduled everything accordingly -- I thought -- but performers ended up showing late. And to add insult to injury, a fellow artist that I needed to perform was under 21, and we ended up having to sneak him in the show, which is a story in and of itself."
"In the end, though, when push came to shove, we bodied our set and the crowd went crazy. I'd never seen a mosh pit at a hip-hop show, until then."
Burton teamed up with rapper Chris B(e) and the duo formed their indie music label GoodKushBetterMus(e)ic in 2016. They released their debut album GoodKushBetterMus(e)ic the following year, mixed by Randy Hernandez and featuring guest producers like Dave Moss, Godson, K Park$, Jason Unique, Reptilian, Kory Winter, Amethyst, and Phillip Martin.
"My side is titled, Better Mus(e)ic," Burton told the Reader, "and you see the papers with music notes flying around everywhere, because I’ve become consumed by it, in a good way, and things creatively are just getting better."
According to Chris B(e), "Personally, I see my part of the album [Good Kush] as a compilation of songs that address various thoughts I've had, mainly about situations I experienced or knew about, throughout the course of the year."
