Formed in late 2005, Firethorn featured frontman (and longtime Ocean Beach resident) The Inevitable Mr. Chris (aka Christian Dines), alongside bassist Sean Myott and drummer Habieb Fakhoury. The group played an average of 50 shows a year, sharing the stage with such regional acts as Demasiado and The Long and Short of It, and nationals like Local H and Mike Watt.

After a Casbah appearance with Mike Watt’s Missingmen in March 2011, the band split. Mr. Chris recalls "At our last show, Habieb was incredibly late and almost didn't show up at all. The amp broke in the first thirty seconds and cut our set by twenty minutes. I spent over $800 in three weeks just flying out and keeping it alive. But clearly, I'm open to further abuse."

Mr. Chris later relocated to attend school on the east coast and formed a punky pickup band called Love Ethic, backed at various times by Jason Scattaregia, Adam Fagelson, and local female bassist Marian Lowe of Someday Assassin. That group made its local debut on December 5, 2013, at the Tin Can Ale House, with several Firethorn songs in their set. Another project, the Mr. Chris Combo, also performed Firethorn material.

Firethorn played a reunion show at the Merrow in Hillcrest on October 17, 2015, for a bill that included another reunited local combo, Someday Assassin (featuring frequent Chris collaborator Marian Lowe).

“I’ve been moving around the country looking for dedicated lineups and therefore haven’t done anything since a show in Pittsburgh with Ed fROMOHIO a year and a half ago,” explains Chris. “Sean’s other band just had a drummer quit and move to LA. Habieb and I have been tossing around the idea of playing music from time to time, so when Someday Assassin brought up the idea to join their reunion, we were all available. Lucky you!”
