Ashley Matte says she was thirteen when she locked herself in her bedroom and taught herself to play the guitar. While her smooth bluesy sounds are deeply influenced by her favorites - Sarah McLachlan, Bonnie Raitt, and John Mayer – Matte’s poetic music is inspired by her Southern roots and Nashville tradition, matched against the coffeehouse intimacy and emotionally mature pop sounds that are her trademarks.

After two years at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, Matte moved to San Diego in 2003. She signed with Coach House Records, who released her debut album Colors. Since then, she has shared the stage with acts like the Fray, Gavin Degraw, Chris Isaak, Dishwalla, the Dave Matthews Band, and Linda Perry. She has also shared her music with many charities to help fund community programs needed throughout southern
California.

Matte’s second album No Number No Address was released in summer 2009. The following summer, she was invited by Sarah McLachlan to play on the local date for the traveling Lilith Fair tour.

In 2011, Matte relocated to Nashville.
