Bank Patron Bites Robber

La Mesa Police report an attempted robbery in the parking lot outside Bank of America at Grossmont Center. Just before 10 a.m. this morning, a female left her car and approached the bank, carrying a plainly visible deposit bag. A male suspect approached while pretending to converse on his cell phone, then reached out to snatch the deposit bag as he passed.

A struggle over the bag ensued, with the victim biting her attacker, causing him to release his grip on the bag and flee. He headed north on Center Street toward Grossmont Center Drive by foot, and no getaway vehicle was seen, though a search of the area did not result in an arrest.

No photos or surveillance video of the suspect was available. Per the La Mesa Police, “The suspect was described as a Black male adult, 5-10 to 5-11, thin build, wearing a yellow and black baseball cap, a tank top (unknown color), yellow and black short pants, knee high white socks and Nike tennis shoes.” He may also have teeth marks on his right arm above the wrist.

Individuals with further information are urged to contact the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-TIPS. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest.
