Last week, I posted a preview of a Tijuana show featuring Brainfeeder badass Matthewdavid, Karaoke (SD), Joshua Brandon (MTY), and Sixties Guns (SD/TJ).
Here’s a look at how that went.
Today, Sixties Guns vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Xavi dropped P A L A C I O S, the debut release from his solo project Warm Places (free download).
The best way to relate what’s going on here (besides actually listening) is to examine the album art.

Gaze into those big, hazeldream peepers. Note how the light refracts off the endless azure of her hair. Watch the pink in her lips purse with anticipation. Now put a giant pair of headphones on her and place her behind the decks at a fractal sunset beach party. Hold your breath as the last rays of the day, which now seem infinite, glint off of her globular gumdrop bosom. See the cobalt slivers of her brows rise slightly as she drops saccharine dance jams at the Last Party on Earth, Anime Island, 3013.
The album pretty much sounds like that.
Beneath the neon bubblegum, however, lurks something sinister - maybe even heinous - but all the island is too far gone on taffy tabs to notice anything is off… until it’s too late.
I’m especially digging “Crickets in My Head,” an expansive, atmospheric number driven by thumping bass and scurrying insectoid clicks.
It’s got a cool cyberpunk feel to it that makes me want to ingest futuristic designer drugs with triple-breasted women and zip across the pre-dawn metropolis on a mag-lev motorbike.
Ya know?
Anyhow, you can catch Sixties Guns on Saturday, June 29 at The Void (formerly Eleven - 3519 El Cajon Boulevard) with 808 slayer Egyptian Lover, Body of Light (AZ), and Polyphase (Brian Ellis).
