Like a modern day inverse Ron Burgundy, promoter and noise musician Sam Lopez (otherwise known as the skull-wielding guitar innovator Zsa Zsa Gabor) encourages San Diego to “stay strange” with an all ages, monthly showcase at the Kava Gallery featuring local and visiting musicians who strive to further expand the parameters of America’s Finest tradition of weird.
This month’s installment certainly lives up to the calling with a performance from Cathedral X, a small, self-run, collaborative studio of sound and performance projects by sound artist and designer Amanda Schoepflin, visual performance artist Jessica Jeffery, and sound artist Paul Remund (Chairs Missing, Tape Deck Mountain).
Minimal, industrial, avant garde. Check it out:
Also on the bill is audio/visual artist Broth Goard (Xavier Ramirez), who Lopez calls “a shape-shifting anomaly.”
Ramirez finds a hard-hitting sound in the dungeonous space where Death Grips, Men’s Recovery Project, Skrapez, and Throbbing Gristle overlap.

Lopez bills Stay Strange as "A Night of Outsider Art & Music," but says that the name really applies to the audience.
“I'm suggesting that the audience stay strange, or keep their minds open."
