Richard Hoagland, 60, was inside his North park home and heard the sound of his truck engine running. He walked outside and witnessed his truck, a 1999 Dodge Ram pick-up, being driven away. He jumped into the bed of the truck and his roommate called 911.
Two suspects were in the truck’s cab; they drove it at a high rate of speed on Howard Avenue, and then southbound on Florida Street. The truck collided with a tree and then one car traveling westbound on Polk Avenue, and then colliding with at least eight cars before rolling over at 3900 Florida Street.
Hoagland was ejected from the vehicle’s bed. He lay on the ground unconscious. The two suspects fled the scene on foot. Witnesses say that one possibly had a handgun.
Bystanders began performing CPR on Hoagland and were assisted by first responder officers. He died at the scene, however.
One of the suspects was arrested several minutes later at 3700 Alabama Street.
His name is Sean Michael Couch, 21. The second suspect has not been identified. He is described as a Hispanic male, medium height and weight, short hair, unshaven.
