Author & Punisher’s newest mechanical mashup, Melk en Honning, drops June 30 via Housecore Records, a label headed by the album’s producer, Phil Anselmo (Pantera). Expect a slick permutation of Tristan Shone’s usual drone machinery, robot rhythms, and vocals filtered through sci-fi electromechanical masks, as he’ll demonstrate July 11 at Brick by Brick with Cattle Decapitation (on whose upcoming album he appears).

Scott Mathiasen and the Shifty-Eyed Dogs have a self-titled EP (produced by Scottie Blinn for local Blindspot Records) debuting July 9 at the Sycamore Den. Says alpha dog Mathiasen, “People should come to support a blues band that is trying to prove that blues is more than just 12-bar call-and-response-type playing.”

Soft Lions will premiere their Spellbreaker EP at the Casbah on July 16. Soma has a couple of CD-release shows booked in July, including Messages on July 10 (with Chrysalis and Made of Dishonor) and Outlands on July 17 (with Focus in Frame and Guidelines). Also on July 17, prog-rockers Chon will play a CD-release show at the Irenic.

Also debuting July 17, Shadows is the second in a four-EP solo series from Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman, featuring 24 songs, one for each hour of the day, produced by 24 people. Catch him July 11 with Switchfoot at Moonlight Beach for the 11th annual Bro-Am surf benefit concert.

Sven-Erik Seaholm’s release party for The Sexy happens July 24 at Java Joe’s in Normal Heights. “The album features a cast of 22 of San Diego’s finest musicians, so a few of those folks can be expected,” says Seaholm. “Some of that ’60s and ’70s soul will no doubt inform our choice of covers, and we’ll have some guests singing, too.”
