Being an FBI agent can involve dangerous work, but can the same be said about attending the bureau’s annual one-day Teen Academy? “Due to the vast diversity in our workforce, any student with an interest in the FBI, what we do, and how a relationship with the FBI can help their school is encouraged to apply,” says the notice for application to 2015’s event, held last month at FBI headquarters on Vista Sorrento Parkway. “Punctuality, professional behavior, and appropriate dress will be required of all students attending this program.” According to another bureau document, academy classes “offer an insider’s look into gang and drug investigations, hands-on experience involving evidence collection, and tactical operations, all while learning about the FBI’s core values.”
Parents must sign a consent form authorizing use of all photographs taken by the FBI for “promotional purposes,” including “but not limited to, the FBI website, the FBI Community Outreach Facebook page, and other related publications.” They also are required to “agree to indemnify and hold harmless the United States and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, its employees, contractors, and other personnel from any claim, action, liability, loss, damage, or suit arising from my child’s participation in the event.”
