Before the Robot Ate Me played San Francisco's Make-Out Room March 23, the San Francisco Bay Guardian proclaimed, "Those who thought intelligent music could never come out of a superficial city like San Diego will now have to eat their words. The mastermind behind the Robot Ate Me, Ryland Bouchard, has a political science degree as well as a technical ability with samples worthy of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology."
Regarding the same band, the San Francisco Examiner wrote on March 17, "San Diego--based the Robot Ate Me's sophomore release, On Vacation, is a complex jigsaw puzzle of sound...utilizing crackly samples from old records...live instrumentation, and grim tales of cannibalism, faith gone awry, and genocide."
