Almost monday is an alternative rock band featuring teen surfing pals Dawson Daugherty (vocals, bass), Luke Fabry (guitar), later joined by Cole Clisby (guitar). Drummers have included Daniel Griffo (drums). Early recordings were done with producer-engineer Mark Needham (the Killers, Imagine Dragons) and producer Simon Oscroft.
The band was booked to play the 2020 BottleRock Napa Valley festival, running May 22 through 24, headlined by Chili Peppers, Stevie Nicks, and the Dave Matthews Band. Locals the Frights were also scheduled to appear, but the event was cancelled by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The trio released several singles in 2020, including “Parking Lot View” and "Broken People," the latter recorded in Brooklyn NYC with producer Simon Oscroft. Another single was released for "Come On Come On." According to the band, "We wrote 'Come On Come On' before quarantine, dreaming about getting a break from the craziness of jobs, school, or whatever you’re doing. Little did we know. We're hoping this song will be a pick-me-up for people going through tough times.”
"Broken People" was covered on a summer 2020 single from Sofi Tukker.
Their debut 4-song EP don’t say you’re ordinary was released in Autumn 2020. The EP was recorded in Brooklyn and Los Angeles with producers Mark Needham (the Killers, Fleetwood Mac) and Simon Oscroft (the Naked and Famous, Dreamers).
Early 2021 saw the release of a video for their single “live forever,” which they describe as a “Beastie Boys-inspired visual [that] showcases the track’s message of not taking moments for granted and living boldly.” The band's debut EP don’t say you’re ordinary generated more than 23 million total streams, with its lead single “broken people” hitting the Top 10 on Sirius XM’s Alt 18 Countdown and being featured on Amazon Music’s Best of 2020: Alternative playlist. They were also profiled in GQ Australia’s 21 Breakout Musicians to Know in 2021, Amazon Music’s 2021 Artists To Watch playlist, and Apple Music’s Shazam Predictions 2021 playlist, which “features 50 emerging artists who are poised to have a breakthrough year.”
Summer 2021 saw a single for their song "this is growing up," which followed their previous single “hailey beebs.” The latter was also shot as a video shot at night around San Diego on 16mm film, directed by band associate Jack Revell. Their sophomore EP Til the End of Time dropped July 9, followed by a single for “cool enough.” A video for the latter track, directed by Nico Poalillo, focuses on lead singer Dawson Daugherty’s "self-destructive journey through a dystopian society as he tries to do whatever it takes to become cool enough before realizing it’s not all it’s cracked up to be."
Their tour schedule that summer included the Lollapalooza Music Festival, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, BottleRock Napa Valley Music Festival, and Firefly Music Festival. Around the same time, People Magazine declared the band an “emerging artist making their mark on the musical landscape.”
After completing a Latin America tour with The Driver Era, the 2022 video for their Hollywood Records single "sun keeps on shining" was filmed in Australia during the band's first tour of that country. A previous single for "sunburn" soon earned around three million streams and was featured on Spotify playlists such as Young & Free, Weekends + Friends, Soda, Indie Arrivals, Indie Highlights, and Lemonade Playlists, which included them on the cover. They were announced among the artists to perform at downtown's Wonderfront Music & Arts Festival on November 18-20, 2022. In late 2022, the band made their concert debut in Korea, where theywere reportedly greeted nearly as enthusiastically as K-pop stars.
Summer 2023 saw the release of a single, “only wanna dance,” making its way up the Alternative Radio Chart. The band launched a 15-city co-headline tour with Weathers kicking off August 4, 2023 at East Village's Quartyard and wrapping on August 25 in Richmond, VA. They also joined AJR for select dates and made several festival appearances including Wonderstruck, Have A Nice Trip (Korea), Wonderbus, and Life Is Beautiful.
