Quintessentially Californian

California brings to mind an abundance of images: sun drenched vistas, movie stars, surfboards, and palm trees. With its world famous beaches, laid back nature, and film industry, everyone has their own opinion on the left coast. Is it really possible to summarize such an amazing and complex state in words? Artist Christopher Konecki certainly thinks so. In his latest show, “Quintessentially Californian” at Thumbprint Gallery, Konecki expresses his own feelings and thoughts about California through the media of paint.

Konecki earned his Bachelor of Arts from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2008. Nature is a profound theme in his works, coming to life in the form of illustration, acrylic, and aerosol paint. His unique style has captured the attention of many and has exhibited works in galleries across Southern California. Konecki’s expansive use of media is not limited to paintings on canvas, more recently he has begun painting murals, live painting at events, apparel design, and skateboard graphics.

After traveling for two years, Konecki has returned to his home state. Konecki depicts his new viewpoint and appreciation for the slightly absurd and indulgent lifestyle of California in this exhibition. In his own words Konecki describes his latest show as a “personal love poem to the ocean, the smog, the bare feet, the streets, and all the characters that make this great state quintessentially Californian."

The show will be on view at Thumbprint Gallery from September 8th-30th, 2012. The opening for the show is on September 8th, from 5-10pm. The gallery is located 920 Kline Street, in La Jolla. The exhibition is free to ender and complimentary drinks will be served. All ages are welcome!
