When someone says that thing they ate or drank "hit the spot", what "spot" are they referring to? What happens to that "spot" if you drank or ate TOOO much, trying to make sure you've hit that "spot" good and hard?

It's that sweet metaphorical spot in your stomach and your mind. That feeling that rides right in the middle of satisfaction and overindulgence.
