My bleeding heart has healed, a dreamer turned realist, I've learned to draw the line, Insuring I will be just fine..
Cold hearted does that make me? Or protective of ones self, from those that try to take advantage, I like the view from my new vantage.

Sweet ditty. And, I dunno that I can speak to the self preservation bit, although I know the sensation all too well. Good luck with it, though.

Turning, burning, we are forever learning. After the agony of heartbreak, when we've picked up the pieces and moved on, we know to no longer sweat the superficial things. We fear the perilous flow of life, and yet we delight in its liberating ebb. The constant push and pull weaken and age us but at the same time reinforce and extend our will to go on. Whether tomorrow comes or not, our lasting footprints will remain in the sands of yesterday for many years to come.

JMJ QP!!! That's a poem in itself and would go on my frig instantly had I one. (Doesn't fit in the Celica:) Very well stated. You've earned a new name, Sir, "QuillPRINCE" because this blip is absolutely regal!
