The Tin Can Ale House in Bankers Hill recently completed a renovation including new sea foam green flooring, a shorted bar to make room by the stage, a kitchen, and a revamping of the venue’s namesake canned beer menu.

“We scaled back from around 100 cans to have a few selections from each genre,” says bartender Patrick Conway.

The bar also offers Racer 5 and Jamaica Red on tap, red and white wine, and a sparkling wine by the can.

Look for cocktails soon, as a notification of the venue’s pending liquor license is posted out front.

Tin Can’s new kitchen, an evolution of the Doods Foods guerrilla delivery service, opened about a month ago.

The house specialty is the Flying Cheeseburger ($8) – two ¼ pound patties on a fresh Mexican bolillo roll from Panchita’s Bakery in Golden Hill with cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce, onion, and Doods special chipotle buttermilk sauce.

Veggies can opt for the homemade black bean burger ($5), grilled cheese ($3), or the classic Short Bus sandwich ($5) - a fried egg, cheese, and fries on a roll.

“I want to make good, full food that’s accessible to everybody,” says Pockets. “I came from a house where we would all throw in a few bucks and then make a pizza or something. I feel like there’s a lot more soul in cooking and sharing a meal than just going out for a meal. So that’s what I’m bringing here. People come to hang out and talk. It’s a clubhouse feel. I like that vibe.”
