Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga (3301 Adams Ave) celebrates summer with 108 Sun Salutations, a challenging and exhilarating 2-hour class in which students and teachers join together to complete a foundational yoga sequence that takes a mind-body approach in order to increase strength, flexibility, focus, and reduce stress.
What is yoga? "Yoga is a mind-body practice in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) with origins in ancient Indian philosophy. The various styles of yoga that people use for health purposes typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation," states the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a branch of the National Institutes of Health.
According to the Mayo Clinic, other benefits of yoga practice include improved balance, weight loss, and management of cancer, depression, pain, anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue. Yoga may also help with high heart rate and blood pressure.
