Ladies Only: Go Fast, Turn Left, Have Fun!

It seems relatively rare for sports to be opened up to, and specifically marketed toward, women, but Crank Cycling coaching and training center aims to change that by organizing a track cycling clinic at the San Diego Velodrome in Balboa Park run "by women for women."

Coach Pam Jorgensen has over 20 years of experience teaching people how to ride and race bikes--for fun and competition--and she will lead the one day workshop open to experienced riders and total newbies alike.

A $20 entry fee reserves a spot in the class as well as a rental bike. The workshop will be divided up into two groups; one for total beginners and the other for more practiced cyclists. No experience is necessary and there's a tacit promise that the experience will be fun and free from excessive, intimidating machismo.

Of course, any ladies who want to push themselves to get a good workout will be able to do that, too! Graduates of the class get free entry in the women's field at Friday Night Racing the following week and a chance to compete for glory and hi-fives (and possibly some cool prizes).

As rare as it is for women to have an exclusive port of entry into otherwise male-dominated sports and activities, this clinic is going to be a great opportunity for San Diego women to try something new, get some intense exercise, and maybe make a few new friends or discover a new hobby.

Inquiries should be directed to Elaine Hutchinson at [email protected] and registration information is online at http://www.crankcycling.com/schedule/ on the coaching center website.
