Cinépolis is the New Theater in Town...Prepare to Recline!

If you haven’t tried Cinépolis, you’re in for an unusual movie going experience. With two locations in San Diego County: Del Mar and La Costa, Cinépolis provides home theater comfort in a public setting, plus the added benefit of food service. My partner-in-crime, Mark, and I finally got a chance to check it out-we were waiting for a movie we really wanted to see. The box office is inside the theater, which is the first clue of something different. Stepping into the lobby, there is a bar and tables, a stylish lounge, and a kiosk to view previews & buy tickets, in addition to a concession stand and the ticket counter. There are two theaters designated 21 and up because alcohol is available to those moviegoers.

The usual movie theater fare is available at the concession stand, as well as desserts. Or once you’re ensconced in your over-sized, reclining seat, you can place an order from the menu with one of the many servers. It may seem strange to eat sushi while watching a movie in a theater, but you’ll get used to it! There are small swivel tables for your plate and additional space to set things in between every two seats. Of course, there are also the usual cup holders. It is all very spacious and comfortable. The servers moving in and out of the theater isn’t as distracting as you might think.

Despite the ticket cost, Mark stated from his fully reclined chair that he didn’t think he could ever go to a regular theater again. The Cinépolis in La Costa has just two stalls in the downstairs bathroom, but there is another bathroom upstairs. So keep that in mind if you get large drinks or more than one martini! Our dinner was almost $40-turkey panini, short rib sliders, beer battered fries, and two drinks. It was excellent, but you can certainly just get dessert and coffee or popcorn. Regardless, it’ll be hard to go to a regular theater after you’ve been pampered. Don’t say you haven’t been warned…I’ll see you there for the next show!

The couple next door were next: a thick stack of no-fault eviction papers were left taped to their door.
