Bypassing the bylaws? Local planning group accused of plowing through process to keep illegal stop signs
Dorian Hargrove 4:25 p.m., June 18
I have no idea why I've never heard of Kobey's Swap Meet (3500 Sports Arena Blvd.) but on my way to the Ocean Beach dog beach this weekend, I saw the massive, labyrinthine tent structure that was Kobey's.
Kobey's is open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $1 on Fridays, and $2 on Saturdays and Sundays. Children 11 and under enter for free, and dogs are welcome. Parking is free.
Kobey's shopping tips include arriving early, bringing cash, wearing comfortable clothing, and learning to navigate the 1,000 vendors who offer goods ranging from incense to scrubs to musical instruments to surfboards to dog treats.

Kobey's is without a doubt, the best swap meet in San Diego.
You can get anything there. Fruit, vegetables, clothing, electronics, art supplies, auto supplies, musical gear, fishing equipment, antiques, pinatas, hardware, magnifying glasses, leg cramps, sunburn, mini-donuts, hot dogs, listen to a steel drum band one week and a guy playing a guitar made from a suitcase the next. The place is beyond just a swap meet....it's the Magical Mystery Tour--minus the acid. And yes, you can get live fish, birds, lizards, hamsters, occasional kittens and puppies and more. If you haven't been...you really, really need to see this place.
