The fall and winter holidays often spur individuals to contribute or volunteer, especially with our reminders to give and be charitable to each other. Here is a volunteer opportunity for the holiday season and beyond.
St. Vincent de Paul (1501 Imperial Ave) was established in 1950 and is a nonprofit that provides services and transitional housing to the homeless in San Diego.
"Homelessness is rarely a simple problem. Usually it results from a combination of factors such as limited skills and education, job loss, family instability, abuse, physical or psychiatric disability, addiction and home foreclosure. Although the average person may be able to remain housed with one of these risk factors, by the time an individual has two or three it becomes easy for them to lose their support network and become homeless."
St. Vincent de Paul welcomes volunteers to fill a range of positions: meal servers, administrative support, barbers and hairstylists, mentor to children and teens, homework tutors, dentists, adult education tutors, and more. Volunteers are provided with training, and all volunteer hours must be scheduled with the office.
